Pigeons in Asakusa

Until the 20th century, there were so many pigeons flying over Asakusa. There were even vending machines selling birdseed (or “beans for pigeons”). Pigeons often swarmed people in groups to get food. But later, feeding pigeons was prohibited for health and sanitary reasons.
